Process and Criteria for Selecting Participants

The selection of twelve participants for the boot camp program will begin with a multi-pronged search for men and women who are able to demonstrate interest, potential and promise in the field of digital journalism, but who might not have had extensive training or experience in a formal setting. Applications will be screened by a selection committee (comprised of representatives from AWAN and media experts), according to rigorous professional and/or academic criteria. Candidates will be assessed according to the following:

  Written statement of qualifications   20 points  
  Computer and Internet literacy   20 points  
  Demonstrated ability to write with clarity and insight (samples)   10 points  
  Professional, academic and/or character references   10 points  
  Fluency in Arabic (knowledge of English is a plus)   10 points  
          TOTAL 100 points  
 
Candidates who score 70% or higher on the online application will be short-listed and called for a face-to-face interview and writing test. The selection committee's final decisions will be based on evaluations of the online application, test scores and assessment of a candidate's strengths and weaknesses through the interviewing process.
